Elec seat adjusters
#1

One of the electric seat adjusters on my driver's seat is not working (standard 4 way). I recall someone having said that they had success fixing a similar problem by just cleaning something. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I'd start with the connector under the seat - disconnect, clean both ends, then reconnect.

Jeff,

I took apart the actual switches on the seat and just cleaned them with a toothbrush and put them back together and they worked.

Thanks guys, Steve, I remember you telling me that now. What will I find when I take the switch apart? Will springs go flying? Thanks

Jeff,

There are springs in the switch as well as small steel balls, so be very careful when you take it apart. More information here.

Having done both the taking apart to clean contacts and the full replacement of these 4-way switches before, I recently discovered a way to get them working again that is much easier and cost effective: good ol' WD-40.

Yes, just remove the external bezel holding the switches to the side of the seat, locate an appropriate hole in the malfunctioning switch and give it a good squirt of WD-40. Works like a charm!

I figure it can't hurt and if it stops working later and doesn't respond to this treatment again I can always resort to the hassle of taking the switch apart or replacing it like I did last time.
