Long time listener, first time caller....
#1

I've been a member on here for about 3 years and have found the answers to most of my questions in what is listed in the forums. Thanks, it is Great info! I have read everything I could find in the forum regarding hall sensors but haven't found anyone with the same issues as my 968. My car will start and run until it warms up then it will start to mis and die. After it cools off it will start again and repeat the process. The fault code it shows is 1-2-3-4. I purchased a new cam sensor and replaced it, cleared the code, started it then the same thing happens. Still have fault code 1-2-3-4. My next step was to change the crank senor, but before I start changeing more parts, I was hoping someone would chime in if they have had the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

this topic has now been moved to where it belongs

if you read the thread pinned at the top of this section, it will show you that what you have is an intermittent Hall Sender fault - the Hall Sender is located behind the distributor housing - common failure due to heat - to change it you have to remove the valve cover though, as they did not give you enough clearance to get at it

I had the same issue, 1-2-3-4, it's the hall sender and the 2 makes it intermittent.

I replaced the hall sensor behind the distributor housing and still have the same issue. What else could it be?

How long ago? I also replaced mine and it lasted for maybe 8 months or so before it went to intermittent code throwing. It could also be an issue with the wiring somewhere in the harness.

I changed the sensor last night. the plug end of the harness looked good, I will look at the rest of the harness to night. Is there a particualar area (other than behind the distributor) that is a common faliure?

Did you disconnect the battery for a while to clear the computer? Is it still logging that code after the computer was cleared?

Yes, I cleared the code, started the engine after I changed the sensor, shut it down and checked the code (it was good). then I started the engine and let it get up to temp, then it's back to the 1-2-3-4.

Well you either having a wiring issue in the harness, or a bad sensor. I was surprised my sensor died so soon, I guess it happens.

Could be a bad sender. I hate installing bad parts, but it could be.

so, you got a 1-5 code, then it warmed up and threw the 1-2-3-4?

Yes, - I got the 1-5 code after I changed the sensor and disconnected the battery, started the car and shut it down in 15 seconds.

Then I started it, let it warm up, it started missing then died, then the 1-2-3-4 code.
