Aftermarket Radio Install
#1

Does anyone have this documented somewhere? I have a Pioneer Head unit that I would like to install but I haven't found a DIY or wiring diagram. If there is such a document could you please point me in the direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Josh

I found the wiring diagram, a DIY would still be good though.

Have you tried the Crutchfields web site. I found a very good DIY howto for my wife's boxster.

Actually that reminds me of something I wanted to ask. Crutchfield does not list our cars on their site. Would the wiring to the deck be the same on my 93 968 as say a 93 911? Just an idea.

Josh,

When I did put in mine I contacted SW stereo (NC I think) and they made me half a wiring harness that I mated to the head unit and pluged directly into the existing harness in the car. And I can always go back to stock not that I will - IIRC it was around $20

Sam,

Thanks for the info if I don't have it installed this weekend I'll give them a try. A harness would make the install a breeze.

One reminder, there's a power wire for the antenna's booster. It's a skinny black wire that comes from about 3" from the end of the antenna cable connector.

Make sure that wire is getting 12v when the key is on.

No voltage, no reception worth a darn!!!

I've had three 944 type cars, all had that wire disctonnected!!

I figured out the speaker wire routing by clicking the speakers with a AA battery. I had to have my wife click while I listened, then I labeled the wire with a piece of masking tape as I figured it out. I didn't have a wiring harness, so I just soldered the wiring assembly that came with my stereo to the wires in the dash. I hate to pull stuff apart to fix a bad connection, therefore they're soldered.

Well got around to this last night, I was missing three things before that helped me complete this.

1 no front wheels (still being repaired) so I couldn't drive her.

2 Ambition, just sit down and get'r done

3 a nice cold beer <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/cool.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

It really wasn't that hard. I'll try and snap some pics to help people in my previous situation.
