996 C4 wheels
#1

Due to recently slashed tires, I'm in the position of considering a wheel upgrade instead of just buying new 16" tires. I have a line on a potential good deal on 996 C4 wheels with Bridgestone S03's (about half worn).

A couple of questions....the offsets are 55 front and rear, which seems like it will fit fine. I think the stock 17 option was 7.5 with ET65, but these should be ok for the street, right? Secondly, the tires that are on the wheels are 255/40/17 and 205/50/17 (the typical 911 config). Will I likely notice substantially more understeer in somewhat spirited street driving? I'm currently running 205/55/16 and 245/45/16.

Lastly, has anyone mounted these wheels to a 968 before? Any style thoughts? The seller is offering to let me mount them up to try them out and return if I don't like them. I'm kind of on the fence because I haven't really seen them before, but they're growing on me.

The offsets of 55 should pose no problem for the 968 and for the front wheel it will push it out more than the stock wheel with ET65.

Yes, the 7 inch front wheel should cause more understeer when combined with the 9 inch rear wheel. However, you can put a 225 width tire on the 7 inchers along with the 255 on the rear to compensate some.

As far as the style, I do like the looks of those but haven't seen them mounted on a 968.

mitch, i'm running the same size wheels with the same size tires. the understeer is noticable under spirited driving but it is nothing dramatic. i did need to put a 7mm spacer on the front to clear the hubs though.

Yep, the guy at Wheel Enhancement told me about needing the spacer, its to clear the front hub dust cap apparently.

Killer looking wheels.

I've since decided to pass on these wheels and kept my 16's for now with new Toyo T1R's. I liked the look of the C4's, but I just didn't love it. If anyone else is interested, I could dig up the seller's ebay info, but I doubt they're still available.
