968 vs 330CI
#21

Yeah, no kidding.. would be nice if those folks who suggest that going fast should be reserved solely for tracks would also post a list of the tracks ( hopefully one of them which is conveniently located in an area near everyone's home ) where you can really go "fast" .. I haven't heard of too many courses where you can get much above 120-ish before coming up on a turn. Maybe Nurbergring, or some oval track for Nascar you could rent, but until I have a chance to use one or the other, I'll take the liberty once in a while and as conditions permit, to have as much fun, and go as fast as I can with this car ( on open roads, NOT ON CITY STREETS ..). The 968 is built to be driven in a spirited manner, not 25 mph to the grocery store and back. . Having said that, I do want to point out that as noted before, I do not speed on city streets, and on the highway I am rarely above 75 mph , when there is traffic in proximity - however, when I find myself on a straight, open stretch of road where there is no trace of another car for as far as the eye can see, watch out !! My foot stays firmly planted on that pedal until the car stops pulling ( usually right around where the speedometer needle hovers close to 170 ) , or until I do notice another car in the distance which appears to be backing up very quickly toward me And' that's my "track"

p.s. yes, I know I'm not going 170mph in real life ; whilst at 80mph I have NO spedometer delta whatsoever, I am sure that at 170 with 225/255 -17s, the speedo error must catch up with me and take away quite a few mph..

i'm going to stick my radar detector in your car one of these days - it has a gps speedo on it - it was actually very helpful recently in helping me calibrate my speedo, which showed accurate based on those highway speed test gadgets they have on the side of the road, but was still reading high in reality

when you say "calibrate" your speedometer, do you mean actually modifying it somehow so it will show the real speed, or simply know the delta you have at various speeds, but doing nothing to the speedo itself

Yeah you gotta clear the cobwebs out of the top end once in a while. In AZ, the freeways are huuuge. 2-3am on like a wednesday dead too. We got rid of the cameras here, there really isnt any where for a cop to get radar on you without seeing it miles away. Gotta open her up, and wrap her out once in a while. Its kind of part maintenance to me. Too many people drive em gingerly, carbon builds up, and messes up compression. If there is any traffic around, forget about it. I wont take chances then. If its dead out, or maybe one other guy on the road, who happens to be in his mustang, or honda, etc, once in a while I break him off some. I never drag, 3-5th gear in the 3.0 951, out on the freeway......Ill just say nothing Ive come up on in this town has beat me yet. Smoked a Cayman s like it was standing still. I think its all about knowing the limits of your car, and not pushing that envelope on the street.
