968 still a " display showcase " car
#1

Nice to know that snobby valets at L.A's posh hotels and restaurants still consider this car an exotic worthy of always parking it in their front entrance display area . And this is my aventurine green one which did not even go through a wash recently , and is no way near the condition nor the visual impact of the iris blue one .. that might have been parked in the lobby !! Lol .

Just goes to show your car should always be clean! That is if you are going to compete with the big boys!!

Gotta love it!!!......That's why you should never tell a stranger what you paid for the car.......Just say " it was very expensive"

I had that happen to me with my old 944 hosting a dinner at Mark Hopkins in San Francisco. Valet kept it in front. Wonder what people thought?

I still have fun at the expense of those not " in the know " who marvel at the car and ask what kind of Porsche it is and what's under the hood ? I always tell them it has a small block V10 , supercharged . About half of them believe the b.s. ( the hood / nose of the car is long enough to make that story credible ) but eventually I let them off the hook , though not before seeing their eyes open wide with awe and admiration. Great to have a car that so few people see every day on the street .

What made the valet think that those other cars are worthy of being parked next to yours?    EmoticonCar

The real question is how much did you tip him so you could take the picture?

They paid me for the privilege ! :-) . ( Roland has a good point ). I might have given him $ 5 if he parked it between a Ferrari 250 GTO and a DB 5 , but not for those run-o-the-mill, dime a dozen cars ...

You're absolutely right.  I receive a lot of comments and questions as most people have no clue what they are looking at.  And most valets I've run into are more than happy to have it sitting front.

This pic wasn't valet, but it was one of about 20 or so Pcars at a Cars and Stars event tonight.  When we left the happy hour and returned to our car, there was a group of guys waiting to find out who owned it!  Seriously had a great time answering their questions......good times.

I try to avoid valets or anyone else driving my 968. I once had the valet deliver it to me at an upscale hotel in Santa Monica. As my wife and I waited at the entrance, the valet drove up in my car with the handbrake still engaged! I also worry that a valet will hit reverse instead of 1st, or vice-versa, as it is an easy mistake for someone not familiar with the car.

I managed to talk ( talk = $ 10 ) a few valets into letting me park my blue 968 at a few hotels , but the majority of hotels and restaurants prohibit them from allowing customers park their own cars , so regardless of how much they may be tipped , they refuse because they're under threat of being fired if they do . I don't care nearly as much for the green DD, it's a tiptronic so pretty tough for them to screw up much of anything , and it's not in as great of a condition as my six speed is so I'm far more relaxed about someone else driving that car . Kind of a " second child " syndrome , lol.. you realize they're not as fragile as you thought ...

funny - i worry less about the targa when it comes to valets than i did about the 968.  it wasn't because of the cost of the car, or anything like that either.  it was purely that if they screwed something up, it was going to be a pain in the butt to fix.
