295/30/18 Hoosiers?
#1

Does anyone run Hoosiers 295/30/18 on the rear?

My current configuration is 245/35/18's up front and 285/30/18's on the rear.

But I found a good source for used Hoosiers 75%+ tread left, current date codes, low heat cycles. Well they have all kinds of fronts, already picked up 8, will be picking up another 8, stocking up for next year. But for the rears, they don't get many if any of the 285's, but they get plenty of 295's.

Looking at the Hoosier site it looks like they are maybe 1/2in larger in diameter.

The other option I was thinking was switching to Hankook Z214's, but again the closest size is a 275/35/18, and 1/2in larger in diameter. Oh, yes I would switch all the tires to Hankook if I would go this way. But I hear they are just as good at Hoosiers and save a couple of hundred on a new set.

Thoughts?

If you need slightly taller gearing the 295's would work. The extra diameter works out to 5 mph in 4th gear.

On dyno 285's go 119mph at 7100 in 4th gear. 295's go 124 mph

So would the 275's result with the same affect? Assume pretty close.

I'm going to at least try a set or two.

Hi pmason, with your current set up, did you have any issues with rubbing on inner or outer gaurds front or rear?

Pete, you aware if anyone else had any issues, or just good clearance experiences with these sizes?

pmason--> "My current configuration is 245/35/18's up front and 285/30/18's on the rear."

I am thinking of going up to this size from 235/40/18 and 265/35/18. I run Front 8"x18 rims on 55 offset, and rear 9.5" x18 on 55 offset, so this will be a lot closer (5mm each way front, 10mm each way rear) to the outer fender and the strut - i think.

I would appreciate any feedback from others here too. Thank you.

Mark,

I run 285's on the rear plus 21mm spacers and they "just" touch the guard on full compression. These are on Simmons rims with offsets for a 996 GT3 (I have not measured them).

Regards,

Craig

I didn't have problems with the 245/35/18's and 285/30/18's, I'm not sure of my offset, but I do know they are 8.5" front and 10" rear.

Mark, I have run 295s on rear with stock body. 285s up front with massaging. Obviously the offsets, ride height, geometry etc have an effect on fitting.

Mark I ran 255/35f 285/30r toyo888 on my 968, 9/10 forgelines, the front was no problem but I did have bit of rubbing on the inside at the rear, but ymmv individual cars can be different. Never had a problem with the same combo on my 944

We have rear inside rubbing issue on some cars with 285's and use a 5-7mm spacer. Seems offset/backspacing is quite critical and can vary for wheel mfg.

Thanks. Have decided to stick with 265 width. Is plenty and hassle free racing is good racing!
