I finished 3rd in the championship race, and Mike Ward finished 5th in his 968. If you're looking at the results you can click on the "show per class" link in the upper left to see how it breaks out into the various GTS classes.
Friday's qualifying race didn't go well for me. Friday rained all day, and my car is a real handful in the rain as my rain tires are about a year beyond their useful life. A durometer showed that they're actually harder than the tires on my pickup truck. Making matters worse I woke up ill Friday morning and a trip to urgent care caused me to miss the first practice session. The best I could do was 7th in class in the qualifying race.
Saturday went better as it dried up by lunch time, and I was feeling a little better too. I managed to take 2nd place in the Saturday qualifying race. The combined results from both qualifying races had me gridded 5th in class for Sunday's championship race. The Sunday race was interesting as we were the last race of the day, and just as we started we got hit with the remnants of Hurricane Ike. All the rain missed us, but the winds were incredible with gusts up to 70 mph. I've driven in windy conditions before, but nothing like this. It was so bad that you would turn in for turn 1 and get blown off line before you hit the apex <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />. All throughout the race leaves, small branches and trash were blowing all over the track. In spite of the weather we had a good race. I got a good start and quickly gained a position. After a lap or two I made a move from 4th place, passing two cars at the end of the back straight, briefly moving up to 2nd place, but I got repassed by one of them while I was trying to survive the corner. From there I ran in 3rd place for the rest of the race. In the final couple of laps I was able to put heavy pressure on the 2nd place car, but I wasn't able to get by before they threw the checker.
All in all I was pleased with the weekend and being able to salvage a podium finish considering how badly Friday went.
