Wow, those are some mighty slow cars. Another couple of sexy slow-pokes are the Fiat X19, and the Lancia (don't remember the model - Spider, maybe?) from the same era.

Just read the link and saw the Porsche 914 in the "line-up"...

I saw a 914 / 2.0 in Black on my way to work yesterday and it just looked so COOL. I don't care what ANYONE here or elsewhere thinks... it is a COOL car. It will outhandle many faster cars in the twisties...

No idea how quick the limited production 6 cyl 914s were, but guessing for that era they might have had a respectable showing...?

A college buddy and dear friend had that yellow 914 in college. It seemed quick but in those days, well no need to bring those recollections back. Cool car though. Very uncomfortable and hard as a rock seats!

Check out a Gogomobile Dart - now that has to be the slowest sports car ever made.

A friend of mine here has a 914-6 that I would give anything to have in my garage. I have always loved it's styling and low-wide stance. You either love them or hate them.

I think the six in the 914 was only 110-120 HP. The 2.0L 4banger was pretty quick. I had a 1.7 for a while and it was a lot of fun, but it was slow to get movin. It got 34 mpg as I recall though.

At some point I was contemplating purchasing a 914. The 914-6 had a 2.0L six that made 110 hp compared to the 914-4 that made only about 80 hp. Consequently it was much faster off the line and quicker out of a curve. In the final version of the 914-4, Porsche used a 2.0L VW 4 that produced about the same horsepower as the 2.0L six giving that car reasonable performance compared to a 914-6.

If I were still in the market for a 914, I'd look for a nice original 914-6. As an alternative I'd opt for a 2.0L 914-4. The engine in the 914-6 is reasonable simple to maintain although setting and balancing the carbs is an art.

Fiat 850 Spyder. To give it Forum relavance, I lapped one three times in a 20 minute race driving a 968, both cars were race prepped. It was a moving road block.

Having looked into them a while ago and seen the market... the 914-6's still sell for anywhere from $17-40k depending on condition and how they're prepped...pretty nuts! A comparable 914-4 2.0 will fetch only 2-10k at best! The 6's also had a 5-lug bolt pattern versus the 4-lug of the 4's and a variety of other improvements...

The Delorean wasnt as slow as they say it is. DOT made them slow with all the smog restrictions. Sigh, if only Delorean got the twin turbo into production before they went under. IIRC the Euro spec cars were comparable to the 911's of the time.

$ 40 k ??!! wow, anyone who pays more than $ 1,500 for a 914 , whether a 6 or not, belongs in an insane asylum, IMHO. I'd take a 944 any day , any time, over a 914.. and you can buy one of those in really great shape for about $ 3 - 4k ..

Good one. I had one of those once - agonizingly slow. Kind of cool looking, though.

The 914 is a go cart - not a street racer. Last gen MR2 is the same car except that it doesn't leak or rust. Fun cars if you can tolerate the ride. I'm with Dan - for me I'd rather drive the 944 daily.

i just wonder how they qualified many of those as "sports cars". many of them have a roof. that disqualifies them immediately, just as would a back seat, an automatic transmission, or anything else that was there that was not pure sport and fun.

a delorean as a sports car??? a fiero???
